Why Do You Believe in God?

Why Do You Believe in God?

You might have asked yourself, “Why do I believe in God?” Or maybe someone has asked you that question, and you found yourself searching for the right words. It’s a question that goes to the heart of our faith and our worldview. Today, let’s explore this question together and discover how we can share our belief in God with others.

In our recent sermon “Made to Reach Others“, we delved into the idea that everyone has a lens through which they view the world. This lens, or worldview, shapes how we interpret everything around us. For many of us, our lens includes the belief that God is real and active in our lives. But how do we communicate this belief to others, especially those who don’t share our faith?

Understanding Our Worldview

Imagine someone told you there was an elephant in your backyard. You’d probably be skeptical, right? Your worldview tells you that elephants don’t belong in backyards. But if you saw a news report about a circus elephant on the loose, your skepticism might waver. Suddenly, the improbable becomes possible.

Our belief in God can be similar. It might not make sense to someone until they see evidence or experience something that shifts their perspective. As Christians, we believe that God is the creator of the world and that He sent His son, Jesus, to die for our sins and rise again. This belief shapes our entire worldview.

Reaching Others with the Gospel

Jesus sent His disciples out to share the good news, and He calls us to do the same. In the Gospels, we see Jesus commissioning His followers to preach, teach, heal, and proclaim the kingdom of God. This mission wasn’t just for the first disciples; it’s for all of us who follow Jesus today.

In the Book of Acts, we read about the early Christians spreading the gospel far and wide. One powerful example is the Apostle Paul in Athens. Paul encountered people with different worldviews, including Epicureans and Stoics. These groups had their own beliefs about gods and the universe, but Paul boldly proclaimed the truth about the one true God.

Paul’s message was clear: God is the creator and sustainer of all things. He doesn’t need anything from us, but He gives us life and breath. Paul emphasized that God wants a relationship with us and that this relationship is made possible through Jesus Christ.

Living Out Our Faith

So, how can we apply Paul’s example to our own lives? Here are some practical steps:

  1. Pray for Open Doors: Ask God to open doors for you to share the gospel. Pray for the people in your life who need to know Jesus.
  2. Walk in Wisdom: Be wise in how you act and speak around others. Your actions should reflect the love and truth of Jesus.
  3. Make the Most of Every Opportunity: Look for opportunities to share your faith. It might be a conversation with a coworker, a neighbor, or a friend.
  4. Speak with Grace: Let your conversations be full of grace and seasoned with salt. Share the truth of the gospel with kindness and respect.

Conclusion

The point is, Jesus wants a relationship with everyone. He calls us to share the good news with those around us. So, what will you do this week to make Jesus known? Who in your life needs to hear about the love and grace of God?

If you don’t take this step, you might miss out on the incredible opportunity to be part of someone’s journey to faith. Be bold, be loving, and be ready to share the hope you have in Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Son, Jesus. Help us to see the opportunities You place before us to share the gospel. Give us the wisdom to walk in Your ways and the courage to speak Your truth with grace. Open the hearts of those we encounter, and use us to make Jesus known to the world. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
